Rondo For a Black Dog

Tatiana Kolchanova, violin; Shelley Matthewson, viola; Katherine Schultz, cello. Performed at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, Portland, OR. January 2015: Cascadia Composers "January Jubilation" concert.

Two black Labrador retrievers, Jake and Juno, are the composer’s constant companions so it was inevitable that a piece of music would inspire or at least reference these loyal and patient dogs. This rondo for string trio playfully bounces between alternating motivic and melodic themes and includes repeating rhythmic figures and hockets.
